To Explore the World of the Whitetail... in the Woods of New England and Beyond
Welcome to Quality New England Whitetails!
Autumn to Near-Winter So Far?
Hmmmm... a brief update from the woods and world of the whitetail: A juicy doe in archery season and a respectable 7-point in rifle! We've been semi-haunted by wet weather, but like you've heard me say, those deer are always somewhere. And so far we've had an eventful, family-style hunting season.
This is my son's first hunting season, and at the ripening age of 14 he had his first case of real buck fever on youth weekend. This near-ol' man's heart was hoping like never before that the 6" spike whitetail would take just one more step into the open and offer a shot. And like it has happened to all of us before, it just wasn't meant to be. The experience however did give the 14 year old hunter the motivation to take to the woods on opening day and stay on stand from dark to dark in the torrential rain! Job well done, kid! (thanks to my father, his grandfather, for sticking it out with him) It's only a matter of time before he's got something on the tailgate...
Myself, I got lucky opening weekend and had the above love-struck buck wander oblivious into my scent dripper. It's definitely tough to resist the wafting scent of estrous doe secretion (my dear wife would certainly disagree, however).
To add to the hangin'-several-deer-fun thus far, are all the pictures we've been gettin' on our trail cameras. I've put them in "new forum tops" in the above, left corner of this home page. Be sure to check them out - it's the first time I've had bucks, does, fishers, coyotes & bears all come to the same scent dripper in 5 day's time!
Hope all is well in your world of the whitetail,
-Vaughn P.
